Isadore and Anna’s Children

Isadore and Anna (Chana / Hannah) Levine (Lewin) were married in 1891 in Tuszyn, Poland. They had 4 children in Poland: Otto (Arthur), Freida, Sadie (Ruth) and Jerichen (Paul). They had another child in the United Stated: Rosie (Rosalind).

On Anna’s ship manifest [1], you can see the Yiddish names of the children she travelled with but over time, they switched their names to more American sounding ones.

The ship manifest for Anna Rothman, 1907

  • Uescher became Otto then Arthur
  • Frieda was the only one without a name change. She always remained Frieda
  • Sure Roase became Sadie then Ruth
  • Jerechen became Pinkus then Paul

Click on each one of their names under the “Isador and Anna’s Children” menu under the Rothman button above to learn more about each one of them.

Up until the time Paul died in 1955, the siblings were often seen together at family occassions. It is too bad the family drifted apart from Lillian and Paul’s son, Stanley, after that.
